Donald Trump and his sycophants in Congress have betrayed a core promise

Washington, D.C. — In a horrid act of MAGA sycophancy, Senate Republicans voted to approve a modified version of Trump’s big, ugly wealth transfer — a monstrous spending bill that makes huge cuts to Medicaid, starves food assistance programs, and raises the federal deficit by three trillion dollars, all to give billionaire oligarchs a historically unprecedented tax break.

While this amended version of Trump’s bill will have to overcome new challenges in the House of Representatives before being passed into law, the lack of resistance from critical Republican senators is an unmistakable sign that it will arrive on the president’s desk sooner rather than later.

Don’t let the name fool you, Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” will be remembered as one of the ugliest and cruelest pieces of legislation ever passed through Congress. Thanks to MAGA Republicans, Americans in all 50 states will be sicker, hungrier, and poorer than ever before — solely to concentrate wealth among the rich and the privileged.

Contact your representatives today and say NO to Trump’s big billionaire handout.

GOP Sen. Thom Tillis: Trump is Betraying His Promise to Medicaid Beneficiaries

Although the overwhelming majority of so-called Republican “holdouts” in the Senate disappointingly caved into passing Trump’s monstrosity of a bill, at least one GOP senator, Thom Tillis, listened to his conscience and voted it down.

In a rare display of honesty from his side of the aisle, Tillis cited the obvious and irreparable harm that his party’s legislation will inflict on American voters.

Specifically, by threatening to take healthcare away from millions of people, Trump and his henchmen are betraying a promise they made to their supporters not to touch Medicaid or Medicare.

“Now, Republicans are about to make a mistake on healthcare and [betray] a promise,” Tillis acknowledged in a Senate floor speech. “Supporting the Senate mark will hurt people who are eligible and qualified for Medicaid.”

On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly promised not to touch Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security, even vowing to veto any legislation that compromised those programs. Under the provisions of Trump’s big, terrible bill, however, over $930 billion will be cut from these social safety nets over the next decade, and over 17 million current Medicaid beneficiaries will lose their health coverage.

Needless to say, Trump’s pledge not to touch Medicaid will live in infamy as one of the most treacherous and villainous lies ever sold to the American public.

Trump’s Big Bill Exposes GOP Cowardice

Regardless of Tillis’s defection, the White House still swayed enough Republican holdouts to bring the final tally to 50-50, allowing Vice President JD Vance to cast the tie-breaking vote.

In a stunning example of Republican cowardice, several hesitant GOP senators ultimately voted for Trump’s bill despite expressing grave concerns regarding its planned cuts to Medicaid and other life-saving government programs.

For example, after writing a surprisingly candid op-ed article denouncing Trump’s plans to cut Medicaid, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley voted to defund the program anyway — openly supporting an agenda he described last month as being “politically suicidal.”

Likewise, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski reluctantly supported the bill despite calling it fundamentally flawed. “This bill needs more work across chambers and is not ready for the President's desk,” she admitted, right after voting to send the bill to the president’s desk.

Had either objected to the bill’s passage, healthcare could have been saved for millions of Americans.

Supreme Court Limits Nationwide Injunctions, Endangering the Future of Birthright Citizenship

Unfortunately, the steady progress of Trump’s ugly budget wasn’t the administration’s only noteworthy victory over the past week.

In yet another disastrous ruling, the Supreme Court voted along ideological lines (6-3) to limit the power of nationwide injunctions — preventing lower courts from putting a standstill on Trump’s blatantly illegal and unconstitutional executive orders.

More specifically, the latest decision has effectively cleared the way for the administration to deny birthright citizenship to the children of immigrants — a bedrock constitutional right enshrined into law 127 years ago under the 14th Amendment. Since the end of the Civil War, anyone born on American soil has been recognized as an American citizen, regardless of the citizenship of their parents.

Nevertheless, the Trump administration now plans to begin deporting the children born to undocumented immigrants by July 27, following a brief 30-day hold imposed by the Supreme Court.

Make no mistake: the president’s intent to deport naturalized American citizens is rooted in nativism, xenophobia, and a burning hatred for the melting pot that has defined our country since its inception.

Justice Department Plans to Strip Citizenship Away From Naturalized Americans For Committing “Criminal Offenses”

Moreover, children born to undocumented immigrants aren’t the only ones threatened by the president’s unconstitutional scheme to deprive Americans of their legal citizenship.

According to a memo published by Trump’s Department of Justice, federal attorneys have been directed to intensify denaturalization proceedings against foreign-born American citizens who have committed vague criminal offenses.

Worse, the Justice Department plans to conduct these proceedings through civil lawsuits, thereby denying plaintiffs the right to an attorney and lightening the administration’s burden of proof when bringing charges and evidence against these naturalized citizens.

Rest assured, Trump’s heinous plot to hasten denaturalization proceedings isn’t about addressing crime or making our country any safer; rather, it’s part of a wider effort to vilify immigration and punish his political adversaries — including college protestors — through frivolous witch hunts.

MAGA Embraces Racist and Nativist Attacks Against New York City Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani

The Democratic Party’s freshly nominated candidate for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is one of those threatened by the administration’s cruel and unlawful denaturalization agenda.

As Republicans have been unable to come up with an answer to Mamdani’s unashamedly working-class agenda —  which aims to provide New Yorkers with affordable housing, groceries, and free public transportation — the MAGA base has turned to racist and xenophobic attacks to slander his campaign.

Some, including the president, have even suggested that he should be deported.

Being a first-generation Muslim-Indian immigrant born in Uganda, fearmongering conservatives have ignorantly and incorrectly argued that Mamdani is an illegal immigrant, even though he obtained full citizenship in 2018 and has lived in the United States legally since he was seven years old.

“A lot of people are saying he's here illegally,” Trump echoed, shortly after the NYC Democratic primary. “We’re going to be watching that very carefully.”

Mamdani has denounced the president’s racist intimidation tactics.

“I have already had to start to get used to the fact that the president will talk about how I look, how I sound, where I'm from, who I am. Ultimately, because he wants to distract from what I'm fighting for,” he said. “I'm fighting for the very working people that he ran a campaign to empower that he has since betrayed.”

The New York City mayoral election is scheduled for November 4, where Mamdani is set to face off against current Mayor Eric Adams, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who reportedly plans to run as an independent, and the Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa.
