Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” Is an Attack against Working-Class Families

Washington D.C. — Under the cover of darkness, Donald Trump’s enablers in the House of Representatives spent the midnight hours planning the destruction of the social safety nets protecting millions of American families across the country — both in red states and blue states.

Despite promising to help working-class families get ahead, the Republican administration is now planning wholesale cuts to Medicaid and food stamps that will leave everyday Americans sicker, hungrier, and poorer — meanwhile expanding the federal deficit by giving away tax breaks to corrupt billionaire oligarchs like Elon Musk.

In fact, Republicans are so fond of the regressive legislation that they have chosen to name it the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a title indiscernible from satire.

Consequently, if the bill passes into law, between 8.6 and 13.7 million people will lose their health coverage by 2034, marking the abandonment of one of Trump’s top campaign promises.

Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Deal” Would Defund Medicaid and Add Burdensome Work Requirements

In a narrow 17-16 vote, Republicans on the House Budget Committee advanced the “Big Beautiful Bill” on Sunday to deprive low-income Americans of healthcare and supplemental food assistance.

As it stands, the far-right spending proposal would require ‘able-bodied’ Medicaid beneficiaries to work, volunteer, or study at least 80 hours a month to keep their government assistance, facing twice-annual eligibility checks.

The Republican cuts to Medicaid would affect the over 71 million disabled and low-income Americans who currently rely on the program to access healthcare and prescription drugs. An analysis published by the Congressional Budget Office estimates the changes would increase the number of people without health insurance by at least 8.6 million by 2034.

The reconciliation bill’s work requirements would take effect by January 1, 2029 — although some Republican hardliners want that date expedited to December 2026. When these work requirements take effect, states must deny coverage to anyone who does not document their time working, volunteering, or studying. Based on the results of failed work requirement experiments previously tried in states such as Arkansas, A Center on Budget and Policy Priorities report warns that as many as 39% of eligible working recipients could still lose their coverage due to governmental red tape, especially if made to travel to a field office in person.

Contrary to conservatives’ claims that employment is the best means to access healthcare, previous studies published by the Congressional Budget Office show little correlation between work requirements and recipients’ employment status or income; most Medicaid beneficiaries are already employed in part-time or full-time positions. Furthermore, although Republicans have promised to exempt people with disabilities from these requirements, those who are unable to work due to their illness fear they will have to justify their sickness to remain enrolled.

“In no uncertain terms, millions of Americans will lose their health care coverage,” warned Rep. Frank Pallone of New Jersey, the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likewise accused her colleagues of using the cuts to subsidize tax cuts for the wealthy. “While their constituents are asleep, Republicans are trying to take away health care from 13.7 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires,” she told supporters on Bluesky.

Some Republicans have expressed disagreement with the cuts to Medicaid, including Missouri Senator Josh Hawley, who called the plan “Morally wrong and politically suicidal.”

Justice Department to Pay $5 Million to the Family of the Deceased Capitol Rioter Ashli Babbitt

The Trump administration has agreed to pay $5 million in taxpayer dollars to the family of Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter who was shot and killed by police as she breached the House Speaker’s lobby on January 6, 2021.

Although Trump loyalists believe police used excessive force against Babbitt, who at the time was unarmed, footage showed her breaking through a smashed window as she tried to reach lawmakers sheltering from the violent mob. An internal review by Capitol Police found that the officer involved, Lt. Michael Byrd, saved lives and did not engage in misconduct.

“The actions of the officer in this case potentially saved Members and staff from serious injury and possible death from a large crowd of rioters who forced their way into the U.S. Capitol and to the House Chamber where Members and staff were steps away,” the review noted.

On the first day of his second term, President Trump pardoned over 1,500 violent rioters facing criminal prosecution for their actions on January 6, many of whom were found guilty of assaulting police officers, trespassing, and vandalizing government property.

At Least 50 Migrants Deported to El Salvador Entered America Legally

In a disturbing review published by the Libertarian Cato Institute, at least 50 migrants deported to Salvadoran prisons by the Trump Administration were believed to have entered the United States legally.

“The government calls them all ‘illegal aliens.’ But of the 90 cases where the method of crossing is known, 50 men report that they came legally to the United States,” Cato wrote.

“Dozens of legal immigrants were stripped of their status and imprisoned in El Salvador.”

Since retaking office, Trump’s ICE has detained and deported hundreds of migrants merely under the assumption of criminality or gang membership, including Kilmar Abrego Garicia, while denying them legal due process and the chance to prove their innocence.

Former President Biden Shares Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, his office revealed on Sunday.

The discovery came shortly after a “small nodule” was found on his prostate, prompting doctors to perform a more thorough examination. The former president was then officially diagnosed last Friday, with reports that cancer cells have spread to his bones.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the 82-year-old’s office stated. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” the Biden family shared on Monday. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

Following the death of his eldest son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in 2015, Joe Biden made it his life mission to find a cure for the disease — reflected by the Cancer Moonshot initiative he pioneered as both president and vice president. According to the National Cancer Institute, Biden’s efforts have helped intensify research into the causes of childhood cancers and “enabled technologies to characterize tumors and test therapies.”

“Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace,” said former President Obama.

“Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership,” wrote former Vice President Kamala Harris.
