Next Saturday’s nationwide ‘No Kings’ protest, scheduled for March 28, is on course to become the largest mass mobilization in American history. With over 3,000 events planned across all 50 states, according to organizers, the movement expects to surpass its existing record for national turnout. Previously, the protests held last October drew more than seven million participants over a single weekend.

Of course, a lot has changed since the last round of protests. While millions of working families continue to struggle to afford rent, health care, and groceries, the Trump administration has escalated its attacks on the American people — resulting in the senseless deaths of Alex Pretti and Renée Nicole Good at the hands of ICE.

Meanwhile, the administration has expanded its warmongering overseas with a costly war of choice against Iran, straining our global alliances and sending energy prices soaring. Recognizing the unpopularity of his actions, Trump has ordered Republicans to take over national elections through the SAVE Act, disenfranchising tens of millions of American citizens in an attempt to make himself president for life.

Donald Trump’s desire to be king has never been more apparent than it is today, and we have a duty to condemn his actions from every street corner.

“With every ICE raid, every escalation abroad, and every abuse of power at home, Americans are rising up in opposition to Trump’s attempt to rule through fear and force,” said Ezra Levin, the co-executive director of Indivisible, the primary organizers behind No Kings. “Each day Trump crosses a new red line, and more people are deciding they’ve had enough.”

“President Donald Trump has promoted violence, hatred, lawlessness and chaos across the country, proving time and time again that he is not a leader,” added Public Citizen Co-President Lisa Gilbert. “As we approach our country’s 250th birthday, we urge all fellow Americans to join the No Kings movement as a show of patriotism and a vision of the country we deserve.”

Above all else, the ‘No Kings’ movement maintains a strict commitment to nonviolence. While this administration continues to wage war at home and abroad, organizers remind us that true progress comes from peaceful engagement at the community level.

Therefore, alongside national protests, the movement is also hosting weekly training sessions in de-escalation tactics, safety practices, and constitutional rights — the next of which is scheduled for Monday, March 23, in coordination with the ACLU.

“We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events,” organizers tell protestors. “Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Next weekend, it’s time to join together and make history. Despite Donald Trump’s best efforts, America has no king — not now, not ever.

“America does not belong to strongmen, greedy billionaires, or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us, the people.”
