Judge Trump Hates Will Oversee Epstein Files Lawsuit

District Judge Tanya Chutkan previously oversaw cases related to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his incitement of the January 6 insurrection

Washington, D.C. — A first-of-its-kind lawsuit aimed at releasing the Epstein files was just passed to a U.S. district judge who has become a major source of frustration for the felon president and his unending legal battles.

On Friday, pro-democracy advocates at the Democracy Forward Foundation launched a new lawsuit requesting records from the Justice Department relating to the Trump administration’s deceitful handling of the Epstein investigation.

“In January 2024, unsealed court documents disclosed the names of dozens of powerful men with alleged connections to Epstein, including President Donald J. Trump,” the lawsuit reads. “This and other information raise persistent questions about what the government uncovered during the years of investigation into Epstein's criminal activity.”

In the filing, the organization accused the Trump administration of violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by continuing to withhold Epstein-related materials from the public, despite there being immense pressure to release them.

“Public records laws outline a clear and simple process that requires the government to immediately produce important documents in response to urgent public information requests,” Democracy Forward president Skye Perryman argued. “The court should intervene urgently to ensure the public has access to the information they need about this extraordinary situation.”

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who will oversee the lawsuit, has a long history of presiding over cases that have inconvenienced Donald Trump and his associates. Most notably, she was previously tasked with overseeing former special counsel Jack Smith’s case against Trump’s 2020 election interference and the incitement of violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In that particular lawsuit, Chutkan released thousands of pages of documents detailing the president’s treasonous behavior, prompting Trump to call her “the most evil person.” Democracy Forward advocates hope their lawsuit receives the same treatment, resulting in the eventual release of the Epstein files.

Among the records Democracy Forward has requested are “all materials prepared or compiled by DOJ officials for Attorney General Bondi’s review regarding the Jeffery Epstein matter,” which would presumably feature a list of the child sex trafficker’s known clients and associates — likely including Donald Trump.

In February, Bondi told Fox News that the Epstein files were sitting on her desk, ready and awaiting review. Now, she says they never existed. The Justice Department is hiding something; it is only a matter of what, or more precisely, who.

The American public — and Jeffrey Epstein’s victims especially — deserve honest answers and complete transparency from the administration. If Donald Trump and other top Republicans are indeed named in the Epstein files, then voters have an urgent right to know.

With luck, Democracy Forward and Judge Tanya Chutkan will help provide those answers once and for all.
