We’ve just witnessed a seismic shift in politics

The results are in. Tuesday wasn’t just a blue wave — it was a clean sweep across every possible battleground. From the plains of Iowa to the forests of Maine, Democrats stunned pollsters in every state, leaving MAGA Republicans deep underwater in races they never expected to lose.
It wasn’t just a blue wave; voters made it a blue tsunami.
Some of the most cathartic wins came in Texas, where Senator-elect James Talarico and Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa decisively ended nearly four decades of Republican single-party rule.
And they didn’t just scrape by — they won by margins similar to Donald Trump’s victories when the state was considered a GOP stronghold. Talarico in particular is expected to finish with an unprecedented 12-point advantage over MAGA stooge Ken Paxton, a remarkable feat most of us could have only imagined just a week ago.
“This win is for every underdog who's been counted out and left behind,” Talarico declared in his victory speech. “This win is for every teacher and every nurse, for every farmer and every rancher, for every young person who's trying to buy a home, for every parent who's trying to put food on the table. This win, this win is for every Texan who's ever wondered if anyone is listening.”
“I heard you. We heard you. And tonight, the world hears you.”
Every single person who contributed, volunteered, knocked on doors, sent out text messages, and brought people to the polls should be proud of what they helped accomplish.
From the early voting period all the way through Election Day, Every State sent out over 500,000 get-out-the-vote messages to mobilize this result, and launched a website to help Texans navigate the complexities of voting in the state with some of the harshest voter suppression laws in the country. Needless to say, we couldn’t be happier to be a part of this historic moment.
And yet, somehow, the upset in Texas was far from being Tuesday’s biggest headline.
In addition to sweeping the battlegrounds of Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas, Democrats expanded their US Senate map to cover states that were barely on the radar.
For example, Josh Turek defeated Ashley Hinson to flip Iowa from red to blue. Kansas elected a Democratic senator, Adam Hamilton, for the first time since 1932. Annie Andrews defeated Darline Graham in South Carolina, easily ousting Donald Trump’s hand-picked and embarrassingly underqualified successor to the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
And perhaps most surprisingly of all, Democrat Scott Colom is currently leading the US Senate race in Mississippi by the narrowest of margins. While that race is still too close to call, it speaks volumes about just how competitive Democrats were across the board this election.
Even in the states Democrats fell short of flipping, such as Florida, statewide candidates still vastly outperformed their previous campaigns, in some cases even netting double-digit overperformances.
Democrats were hoping to end the night with a 51 to 52 seat Senate majority. At this rate, they could easily step into the next Congress with 55 to 56 senators.
It was also an election of incredible firsts. In Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan becomes the first Native American woman elected to the Senate; In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed becomes the first ever Muslim to be elected to the Senate; and In New Hampshire, Chris Pappas becomes the first openly gay man elected to the Senate.
Meanwhile, in Ohio, Amy Acton triumphed over Vivek Ramaswamy to become the state’s first female governor, and in Georgia, Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected to become the state’s first Black woman governor.
In another remarkable statistic, roughly 75% of Americans will soon live in states led by a Democratic governor, including the aforementioned states of Georgia, Iowa, and Ohio, helping to thwart any future election-rigging attempts by Republican state legislators ahead of 2028.
Moreover, Republicans’ mid-decade redistricting — ordered by president Trump to guarantee his party additional ‘safe’ seats in the US House of Representatives ahead of Tuesday’s blue wave — backfired spectacularly.
Despite Republicans’ frantic attempts to give themselves an unfair and undeserved advantage at the polls, they nevertheless suffered a generational collapse in the House.
Ultimately, many of the most egregiously carved-up congressional districts across the Southern US were either held or flipped by Democrats in a rebuke of the Trump regime. By the time the final results are tallied, Democrats are projected to win an estimated 259 seats in the US House of Representatives — far beyond the 218 needed for control.
Truly an embarrassing moment for the leaders of the Republican Party who thought it was possible to game our elections and still come out on top.
While there’s still a whole lot more to unpack regarding what these historic results mean for America’s future, Tuesday was a clear victory for free and fair elections. Despite a multitude of other conservative-led threats to election integrity — including a quarter of a billion dollars donated to corrupt politicians by the world’s richest man, and attempts by the Trump administration to shut down vote by mail — voters across every state persevered and made their voices heard.
This election season, Donald Trump asked us to pretend that he was on the ballot, and that’s exactly what voters did.
Before closing this article, we’d like to thank all our readers for supporting us through these trying times, and making this result possible. We might have won this election, but the work to rebuild our country and restore Americans’ faith in government is only just beginning. The journey ahead won’t be easy, but make no mistake, we’ll continue to stay by your side wherever the next steps take us.
But for now, it’s time to celebrate. Congratulations, America.
